Get Ready for Samsung Galaxy Unpacked: What to Expect

The time has come once again for another exciting Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. The tech behemoth has established a routine of holding a minimum of two of these showcases annually—one dedicated to foldable devices and another focused on the remainder of its product lineup. With the previous event primarily centered around foldable innovations, it’s time for the rest of Samsung’s offerings to take the spotlight, particularly the anticipated Galaxy S25 series. Although the details are exclusively known to those under non-disclosure agreements, we can share some predictions ahead of the broadcast scheduled for January 22 at 1 PM ET.

How to Watch Samsung Galaxy Unpacked and Pre-Reserve Your Device

There are several options available for streaming the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. While tuning into Samsung’s official website would be appreciated by the company, many may prefer to catch the live stream on Samsung’s YouTube channel. The event will be streamed live there as well, and for convenience, the stream has been embedded below.

Additionally, visiting Samsung’s website ahead of the announcement offers a rewarding opportunity. Attendees can reserve the new phones that will be unveiled during the event, which guarantees a $50 credit towards their purchase upon placing a pre-order (provided the same email used for the reservation is utilized). This also allows the chance to participate in a raffle for a $5,000 store credit, requiring no purchase necessary for entry.

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra

Samsung kicks off each new year by unveiling its latest standard smartphone lineup, and this pattern is expected to continue. Typically, this announcement includes a base model, a larger-sized “plus” version, and a high-performance “ultra” type. Recent registrations of three new model identifiers by the FCC hint that this trend will persist this year as well, despite earlier rumors about a potential “slim” model which hasn’t appeared on the FCC list yet.

Regarding specifications, the most noteworthy detail from FCC disclosures is the possibility of 45W fast charging support. Furthermore, there are claims from sources like Android Headlines suggesting images of the devices show a refined design with rounded corners and reduced bezels, while much of the aesthetic remains static.

When it comes to performance, leaks indicate that the entire S25 lineup will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which was announced in October and is slated for deployment in Samsung’s new devices. Historically, Samsung’s flagship models share the same chipset across the board, although prior variations have existed based on geography. Current expectations suggest that regional divergences are to be eliminated this time around.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite processor boasts enhancements of between 35% to 62%, depending on the task—particularly emphasizing web browsing, a critical function for mobile users.

Samsung devices are renowned for their camera capabilities, but reports from Android Headlines and prominent informants like Ice Universe indicate that only the Galaxy S25 Ultra will see improvements, specifically upgrading its ultra-wide lens from 12MP to a striking 50MP.

The display technology is expected to remain consistent with the current OLED arrangement, while the software will run on Samsung’s One UI 7, which is already in the beta testing stage built over Android 15. Anticipations include various AI-related announcements, although robust leaks are still awaited.

Accessory updates may also make an appearance, highlighted by the Wireless Power Consortium‘s statement regarding Samsung’s endorsement of Qi2 wireless charging technology in its upcoming models. However, leaker chunvn8888 notes that, while the support will be present, built-in magnetic components (which Qi2 promotes) may not be integrated. Instead, it seems Samsung plans to market a case featuring a magnetic ring.

Galaxy Ring 2 Anticipation

Details regarding the Galaxy Ring 2 are more subdued, but reports from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes suggest Samsung might offer some insights during the presentation. The site anticipates the release of two new sizes, refined sensors, and fresh AI capabilities. Although the original model debuted in July, consumers might wait a while before the second iteration becomes available. Nonetheless, leaker Lanzuk has indicated Samsung may expedite the launch timetable for the wearable.

Augmented Reality and Extended Reality Developments

Lastly, there may be announcements regarding Samsung’s ventures into augmented and extended reality. Previously, Samsung disclosed an Android-based XR headset developed in collaboration with Google, dubbed Project Moohan. It’s conceivable the company will provide a preview during Unpacked, though the product likely won’t be available for purchase immediately. As Google continues to distribute development kits for the new platform, a consumer launch of Moohan is optimistic for later in the year.

That said, do not expect detailed updates regarding Samsung’s previously confirmed AR glasses. DigiTimes hints at a design that will appear quite ordinary, but given the reliance on Google technology, it’s likely these devices are still in earlier stages of development.

Stay tuned for more updates as the event approaches, as the hints and leaks continue to unveil exciting prospects for Samsung’s future devices.
