The term FARM can also act as a verb.

  • Green: KEEPING THINGS SEPARATE

  • Blue: COMPONENTS OF A LARGE VEHICLE

  • Purple: DANCE OCCASIONS WITH AN EXTRA LETTER

ANOTHER WARNING: THE SOLUTION IS BELOW

Ready to uncover the answers for today’s puzzle? All of them are listed below.

Yellow Group from Today’s Connections

The yellow category is often the simplest one. The theme is WAYS TO PROCURE FOOD, consisting of the following words: FARM, FISH, GATHER, HUNT.

Green Group from Today’s Connections

The green category is typically the second easiest. The theme here revolves around KEEPING THINGS SEPARATE, included are: CLOISTER, SECLUDE, SEPARATE, SILO.

Blue Group from Today’s Connections

This group is regarded as the second hardest. The theme for the blue category is COMPONENTS OF A LARGE VEHICLE, which includes: AXLES, HITCH, TRACTOR, TRAILER.

Purple Group from Today’s Connections

The purple grouping is generally the most challenging. Its theme involves DANCE OCCASIONS WITH AN EXTRA LETTER; the words are: BALLY, DISCOG, PROMO, RAVEN.

Approaches to Solve Today’s Connections

It appears that SILO, CLOISTER, SEPARATE, and SECLUDE might align as words denoting isolation. 🟩

DISCOG is an intriguing term. It might suggest a connection to “discography,” though it’s uncertain.

Additionally, TRAILER, HITCH, AXLES, and TRACTOR seem related as apparatuses for transporting or moving items, particularly on a farm. 🟦 Ah, they indeed represent COMPONENTS OF A LARGE VEHICLE.

Next, it seems FARM, HUNT, FISH, and GATHER fit together as activities aimed at acquiring food. 🟨

That leaves us with DISCOG, BALLY, RAVEN, and PROMO. Let’s see—removing the last letter reveals types of dance events: disco, ball, rave, and prom. 🟪

Instructions for Engaging with Connections

A detailed guide to playing Connections is available, but here’s a brief recap of the rules:

First, locate the Connections game either on the New York Times website or in their Games app (previously known as the Crossword app). This will present a game board consisting of 16 tiles, each featuring a word or phrase. Your task is to pick four tiles that share a common theme. Often these will fall into the same category (for instance: RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, and SNOW are all forms of precipitation), but sometimes there might be a clever twist (such as BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH, all representing kinds of lists: bucket list, guest list, etc.).

Select four items and click the Submit button. If you’re correct, the category and color will become visible. (Yellow is the least difficult, followed by green, blue, and then purple.) If your answer is wrong, you’ll have the opportunity to retry.

Victory is yours once all four groups are correctly identified. However, if you make four incorrect guesses before finishing, the game concludes and the answers will be shown.

Tips for Winning Connections

The key to succeeding in Connections lies in understanding that the groupings are intentionally designed to be challenging. Overlapping groups are common. For example, a particular puzzle once included six breakfast foods: BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL. However, BACON actually belonged to a group of painters alongside CLOSE, MUNCH, and WHISTLER, while EGG was part of a group of items that come by the dozen (like JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH). Thus, it’s crucial not to submit until you’ve verified your group comprises only those four words.

If stuck, one effective strategy is to identify words with apparent disconnections from others. For instance, if WHISTLER evokes thoughts of the painting known as “Whistler’s Mother,” this could signal a potential grouping insight. When solving that puzzle, searching for a painter named Close led to a fruitful connection, as Close appeared to defy any obvious categorizations as well.

Another effective approach while feeling stuck is definitely to consult useful tips—this is why daily clues are provided. Be sure to return tomorrow for the next puzzle!

Be sure to enjoy the challenge, and good luck with your Connections puzzles!
