If you’re on the hunt for today’s Wordle solution for April 14, 2025, you’ve come to the right place! This entry will provide hints, strategies, and the final answer. Today’s challenge was more manageable—I cracked it in just three guesses. Beware: spoilers for April 14, Wordle #1,395 lie ahead! Continue scrolling for some tips before revealing the answer.

Playing Wordle: A Quick Overview

You can find Wordle here on the New York Times website. A new puzzle becomes available every day at midnight in your local timezone.

To begin, choose a five-letter word. The letters will change colors based on your guesses:
green if the letter is correct and in the right position,
yellow if the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and
gray if the letter isn’t part of the secret word at all. For further details, you can check out this guide on how to play Wordle and also refer to this strategy guide for advanced tips. More information can be found below the hints and answers.

Are you ready for some hints? Let’s dive in!

Unusual Letters in Today’s Wordle

Common letters can be identified by referencing the old typographic phrase ETAOIN SHRDLU. (Remember this phrase! Imagine it as a name, “Edwin Shirdloo,” and treat him like a friend.)

Today’s word mostly consists of commonly used letters; only one letter is less frequent, but it’s still quite average.

Answer to Yesterday’s Wordle

Yesterday’s challenge was simpler, with a hint of “one expression of emotion” containing four common letters and one a bit less common.

The solution from yesterday was LAUGH.

Understanding Wordle Basics

The goal of Wordle is to uncover today’s secret word. Upon accessing the game, you’ll observe a blank grid. It’s your turn to initiate the game by typing any five-letter word.

The color codes provided will help guide your next guesses:
Green signifies a correctly positioned letter (for example, if your guess is PARTY and the word is PURSE, P and R will appear in green), while
Yellow indicates that the letter is in the word but in the wrong position (like if PARTY is your guess, but the solution is ROAST, R, A, and T will all show yellow).
Gray means the letter does not belong to the word at all (if everything in PARTY is gray, then it cannot be PURSE or ROAST).

With this understanding, continue guessing to match the correct word within six attempts. After that, the game concludes.

Optimal Starter Words for Wordle

Wondering which word to use for your initial guess? The ideal starters should feature common letters to maximize the probability of hitting yellow or green squares. (Even if all the letters are gray, it still provides valuable information for eliminating options.) While there isn’t a universally “best” starter, the New York Times has suggested the following:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

Additionally, an MIT analysis identified that starting with one of the following yields the maximum word elimination:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Alternatives such as ARISE and ROUND are also solid choices. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO introduce more vowels, whereas opting for consonants with a word like RENTS or CLAMP may prove beneficial. Experiment with different strategies to see which suits you best.

Winning Strategies for Wordle

Various strategy guides for Wordle are available for those keen on mastering the game. For instance, this one explains how to leverage consonants effectively, while that one highlights a strategy centered on the most frequently used letters. An advanced approach even delves into a method of seeking clues while boosting your odds of winning rapidly.

The main differentiator between players who win and those who don’t is that successful players utilize their guesses to gather insights about the letters in the word. If you recognize that the word must end in -OUND, don’t waste guesses on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; cleverly combine consonants for a guess like MARSH. If the H appears yellow, you’re one step closer to the solution.

Keep in mind that the original version of Wordle featured around 2,300 solution words, but after its acquisition by the NYT, the game’s solution list is curated by an editor now. Some words can be more challenging and may reflect current events; for instance, the solution FEAST appeared one Thanksgiving. Thus, it’s wise to consider possible themes.

Exploring Wordle Alternatives

If you crave more five-letter guessing games, check out the top Wordle alternatives categorized by difficulty:

  • Wheeldle, where you can tackle one puzzle after another.

  • Dordle and Quordle, where you face two (Dordle) or four (Quordle) puzzles simultaneously, using the same guesses. Consider also Octordle for eight puzzles and Sedecordle for sixteen.

  • Waffle, where you scramble several five-letter words in a grid and swap letters until you arrive at the solution.

  • Absurdle, in which the solution alters after each guess while staying consistent with previous hints. The challenge is to corner it until only one possible word remains; that’s when you guess and win.

  • Squabble, where you compete against others in Wordle with a timer, risking damage for taking too long between guesses—only one can come out on top.

  • Antiwordle, in which you attempt to avoid guessing the day’s solution. You must reuse letters you’ve guessed correctly, making the longer you take, the better your performance.

Enjoy your Wordle adventures, and happy guessing!
