WhatsApp Finally Launches on iPad
The wait is officially over: WhatsApp has made its debut on the iPad.
Initially released as an iPhone application in 2009, WhatsApp has expanded over the years to include Android, Mac, and PC platforms. However, until now, the iPad was notably absent from this list. Despite its status as the leading messaging app worldwide— with approximately 25% of the global populace utilizing it—Meta had not prioritized the iPad, the most widely used tablet on the market.
All of that has changed as of May 27, when Meta rolled out an iPad app as part of the latest update (version 25.16.81). This announcement followed a teasing post the day before on X, where the official WhatsApp account shared a playful side-eye emoji in response to a user’s suggestion for an iPad version.

The version from the App Store promises a familiar WhatsApp experience, redesigned for the iPad’s larger screen. Chats are organized in a column on the left, while the current conversation takes center stage in a more expansive column on the right. Full-screen status updates and a layout that accommodates multiple participants on video calls are features that should enhance usability, especially for those who frequently use group video capabilities on their iPhones.

Instagram Might Be Next
WhatsApp is not the only app under the Meta umbrella that has lacked an iPad version. Instagram has also been missing for years, compelling users to rely on the iPhone app or the web version for tablet access. Reports suggest that Meta is considering a dedicated iPad app for Instagram, but as of now, no official confirmation has been made. This would significantly enhance the user experience for Instagram users who prefer browsing on their tablets. The community awaits further developments on this front.
