The Upcoming Launch of Switch 2: What Gamers Need to Know
Excitement is building as the release date for the Switch 2 approaches. On June 5, those fortunate enough to secure preorders will receive their consoles, gaining access to new titles such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
This next-gen console will not only feature exclusive games but will also support titles from the original Switch. However, the process isn’t as straightforward as with other backward-compatible systems. The Switch 2 utilizes emulation to play original Switch games rather than supporting them natively. While this approach largely works—Nintendo claims that nearly all first-party titles are compatible—some third-party games experience challenges.
A selection of games, including Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Rocket League, and FINAL FANTASY, face issues at startup, while others, like ALIEN: ISOLATION, Fall Guys, and Overcooked! All You Can Eat, are deemed “playable” but struggle with compatibility during gameplay. Nintendo is currently examining these issues, aiming to enhance the performance of these titles on the Switch 2.
Upcoming Updates for Select Switch Games
Nintendo is already addressing these concerns, with a comprehensive list of titles set to receive fixes. According to the company, 49 games identified with current issues will be updated either upon the system’s launch or shortly thereafter. Notably, Fortnite is slated for a full Switch 2 version instead of a mere update.

The timeframe for these updates remains unclear. Nintendo’s assertion of delivering them “by launch or shortly after” lacks specifics: Which games will receive patches? How long after the launch will changes occur? This ambiguity may leave consumers with questions.
Nonetheless, the promise of forthcoming updates is encouraging. For those who own these Switch titles or are planning to buy them with the Switch 2, staying alert for these updates will be worthwhile.
