Important Update: Samsung to Purge Inactive Accounts
After spending considerable time online, it’s highly probable that many individuals have one or more accounts collecting virtual dust. Countless login details fill various password managers, representing access to platforms that haven’t been visited in ages. Some accounts may not even have made it into the password manager due to long-forgotten logins.
The internet gives off the impression that it is an eternal archive, where dormant accounts can lie in wait for their owners to revisit. However, that notion fades when one realizes that various companies manage these accounts, and their policies often reflect financial and security considerations that do not favor keeping inactive accounts indefinitely. Eventually, many of these companies will begin to delete accounts that haven’t been accessed for a significant duration. While those actively using their accounts may remain oblivious, the unwelcome shock of discovering a beloved account has vanished could be a harsh reality for others.
Samsung Set to Delete Inactive Accounts After July 31
This brings us to a significant update from Samsung. According to reports from SamMobile, the company will start deleting accounts that haven’t seen any activity since July 31, 2021. This policy specifically affects accounts that have been inactive for the last two years, which means that many users might soon lose access to their accounts.
If you hold only one Samsung account and actively use it for your devices, there’s no need to be concerned. However, for those who have set up multiple Samsung accounts or abandoned an old account when switching to another brand, it is crucial to log in to any dormant accounts as soon as possible. If not, Samsung will unfortunately terminate those accounts.
Although there’s no immediate rush to log in if you’re reading this as it goes live, it’s advisable to ensure you access any Samsung accounts that have been inactive for two years or more before the looming deadline of July 31. Doing so will extend the life of your account for another two years, unless further policy updates arise from Samsung.
