Understanding Quordle
Quordle can be played here on the Merriam-Webster platform. A new challenge is available each day.
For those unfamiliar, Quordle offers a unique twist on the popular Wordle format from the New York Times. Instead of tackling a single five-letter word, players solve four Wordle puzzles simultaneously, using each guess across all four grids. This added complexity means you have nine attempts to find the correct words, or twelve on the “Chill” mode, and eight in “Extreme” mode—quite a contrast to Wordle’s six tries.
Your journey begins by guessing a five-letter term. The letters in each of the four sections will turn green if they’re correctly placed, yellow if they’re the right letters but in the wrong spots, or gray if they’re not part of any target word.

My Approach to Today’s Quordle
Starting with the word SLATE, good progress was achieved, particularly in the bottom left quadrant. The word SMITE came to mind but was close. A guess of SPITE confirmed the answer.
For the lower left, PACED was a thought but didn’t fit.
A similar pattern emerged for the upper right where FLUFF popped up but seemed off. Attempting CAPER for the lower right yielded some letters, leading to the conclusion that CHEAP was indeed correct.
With two terms identified, the task was to figure out what starts with FLU. The guess FLUKE seemed possible but wasn’t right. Opting for FLUNK paid off eventually, confirming the guess.
