The Expansion of Health Connect: Syncing Health Data Made Easier
The Health Connect application is set to enhance its functionality for sharing data, giving Android users the capability to harmonize their health profiles across various applications. This exciting development was unveiled during Google’s developer livestream at I/O 2025. Starting from June, Google will introduce integrations for Runna, Mi Fitness, and Garmin, which will significantly expand user options. Here’s everything to look forward to.
Did You Really Lack Garmin Syncing Before?
Surprisingly, yes! A shared screenshot by a fellow tech enthusiast, Beth Skwarecki, highlighted the disparity in Garmin’s app connectivity between iOS and Android devices. On her iPhone, Apple Health connects effortlessly with Garmin, but there’s been a noticeable absence of Health Connect support for Android users.

Up until now, users with both Garmin devices and Android smartphones faced challenges in integrating their fitness data across different platforms. The forthcoming Health Connect update directly addresses these long-standing issues.
What If You Prefer Not to Sync?
As illustrated in the visuals shared, linking a health app from your device to Garmin is entirely up to the user. The Health Connect platform serves as a trusted intermediary, keeping all information solely on users’ devices instead of in the cloud. Complete control over data sharing is maintained, with all integrations switched off by default, requiring explicit consent before any data is shared among applications. Users have the option to manage their data preferences at any time.
What’s on the Horizon for Garmin Support?
The anticipated launch of Garmin support, alongside Runna and Mi Fitness functionalities, is expected to debut in June and is a significant advancement for those utilizing both Android and Garmin. Historically, Garmin’s closed ecosystem has hindered users from easily sharing data gathered from their devices with other health and fitness apps. This update promises to simplify the process of transferring workouts and other fitness data in and out of the Garmin application.
Moreover, users will be able to manage not only basic fitness metrics, but deeper health insights as well, including details about allergies and immunizations. This integration is anticipated to become operational sometime in June, although a precise launch date has yet to be confirmed by Google.
