Anker Power Bank Recall: What You Need to Know
Recently, Anker has announced two voluntary recalls concerning its widely-used power banks, both due to issues linked with the lithium-ion batteries housed within these devices. The initial recall occurred earlier this month for the PowerCore 10000 models sold from 2016 through 2022 due to concerns surrounding fire hazards. A second recall, announced this week, includes five more models, such as the MagGo and Zolo power banks, due to potential battery issues identified during standard quality control evaluations. It is highly advisable for anyone owning an Anker power bank to verify whether their unit falls under the recall umbrella.
Affected Anker Power Bank Models
The below models are part of the recall, although not every unit within these categories is affected. Notably, the recall concerning the MagGo and Zolo power banks pertains only to a single battery supplier. Here’s a summary of the models that might be impacted:
- Anker PowerCore 10000 (Model: A1263)
- Anker Power Bank (Models: A1257 and A1647)
- Anker MagGo Power Bank (Model: A1652)
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (Models: A1681 and A1689)
How to Check If Your Power Bank is Recalled
To determine if your specific power bank is included in the recall, identify the model number, typically found on the bottom of the device. If your model matches any listed above, navigate to the Anker recall page. Follow the instructions provided to access the appropriate recall form, entering the serial number of your unit carefully, especially with characters that can be confusing, such as the letter “O” and the number “0”. After submission, you will receive immediate confirmation about whether your device is recalled.
What to Do If Your Unit is Recalled
If it turns out your device is affected, discontinue its use immediately. Anker provides guidelines on how to responsibly dispose of the affected power bank—do not simply throw it in the trash. Given the presence of lithium-ion batteries, it must be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off location. Most cities have facilities set up for this type of waste disposal. Until Anker verifies that your device is indeed included in the recall, refrain from disposing of it.
Anker’s Compensation Options
In the U.S., Anker is offering consumers a choice between receiving a replacement unit or a gift card. Keep in mind that the gift card can only be redeemed on the Anker website.
