Upcoming Restock of the Nintendo Switch 2
If you didn’t manage to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 when it was released last month, an appealing opportunity to obtain one is arriving this week. Like many recent console launches, the availability of Nintendo’s latest flagship system has been limited, making this upcoming restock a welcome chance for those eager to dive into the latest generation of gaming. Moreover, this restock aligns perfectly with the debut of the Switch 2’s inaugural exclusive title, the Nintendo-developed 3D platformer, Donkey Kong Bananza.
Best Buy will be facilitating this restock, having recently announced on its website that all retail locations will offer Switch 2 units for sale on Thursday, July 17. However, there’s a catch: these consoles will be available only in-store, and while it is possible to pre-order Donkey Kong Bananza, the console won’t have any sort of reservation system in place. This likely means a traditional first-come, first-served scenario, though communication with Best Buy is ongoing for any further insights, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The specific Switch 2 packages that will be offered remain uncertain as well. At the time of launch, the Switch 2 was available individually for $450 or in a bundle that included Mario Kart World for $500, which provided a $30 savings on the game that typically retails for $80. I’ve also reached out to Best Buy to clarify whether this bundle will be included in Thursday’s restock.
Is Now a Good Time to Purchase a Switch 2?
Whether it’s worth lining up for this restock largely hinges on your appreciation for high-fidelity gaming and your favorite Nintendo franchises. An initial review of the Switch at launch highlighted its impressive power, battery performance, and its sophisticated new design; however, it didn’t seem as appealing for the average gamer just yet. Initially, the Switch 2 served as a brilliant way to enhance Switch 1 titles, improving graphics and performance, but the selection of exclusive games was somewhat limited. Obtaining one at launch was logical for those craving new Mario Kart experiences, but a wait was advisable for others.
With the introduction of Donkey Kong Bananza into the Switch 2 library, the time might be right to take the plunge. This title represents the first 3D Donkey Kong platformer in the last couple of decades, sure to delight fans of the rambunctious ape. Additionally, it’s developed by the team behind the beloved Super Mario Odyssey, which is likely to attract numerous Nintendo enthusiasts eager to experience it.
Alternative Options Available
It’s important to note that during this restock, there are unlikely to be any discounts or price reductions, so it’s understandable if there’s hesitation about making a purchase. For those who may not want to endure the wait for a full-priced console, consider signing up for Amazon’s waitlist for either the standard console or the bundle including Mario Kart World. However, keep in mind that it may take some time before a purchase invitation is received.
