Prime Day has returned, alongside opportunities to enhance your smart home setup. If you’ve been considering incorporating a video doorbell without exceeding a $100 budget, Ecobee’s smart video doorbell may be the perfect option. Currently priced at $99.99, reduced from $159.99—this represents its lowest price yet (as reported by price tracking tools), but this deal is valid for Prime members. If not currently subscribed, a 30-day free trial is available for new users. This doorbell integrates smoothly with other Ecobee smart products, as well as Alexa and Apple HomeKit, though it does not support Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video. Installation is wired, requiring more setup effort.
Despite its 1080p resolution seeming less impressive against brands offering 2K or 4K options, the 5MP HDR camera delivers commendable image quality, according to a PCMag evaluation. It provides a broad 175-degree vertical field of view, ensuring visitors are captured from head to toe, along with any packages left during the day. The video quality during daylight is vibrant, while the black-and-white night vision maintains good contrast and definition. Its Smart Focus feature digitally zooms in to better track incoming individuals. Additionally, the dual-band wifi and noise-canceling microphones enhance the clarity of two-way communication, avoiding tinny audio. Notably, it possesses an IP65 rating for weather resistance, providing reliability under rain, dust, and various outdoor conditions.
However, it lacks local video storage, with recordings stored in the cloud. This means you’ll need a subscription to access the majority of features. The Standard subscription costs $5 monthly or $50 yearly and offers 30 days of video history, package alerts, and enhanced notifications for one camera. The Complete plan at $10 monthly expands features to multiple cameras with 24/7 monitoring and extra benefits. Without a plan, only live viewing and basic notifications are available.
