Apple’s WWDC 2025: What to Anticipate
Apple has made an official announcement regarding the schedule for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where it showcases the newest software advancements across various platforms, encompassing the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.
This year’s event is set to commence on June 9th with a keynote address open to the public, followed by a conference tailored for developers that will continue until June 13. This occasion promises to be significant, potentially introducing substantial revisions to the iPhone’s user interface, which may include revamped icons, menus, and applications. Additionally, there could be a hardware reveal, although a new generation of MacBooks may not be on the list since the M4 MacBook Air was recently launched.
Enhancements Across Apple’s Major Operating Systems
The conference, aimed primarily at developers, is anticipated to feature updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and even the newly introduced visionOS for Vision Pro.
While specific details remain sparse at this moment, it is nearly certain that the announcement will include a fresh set of features and capabilities.
One update that has gained traction from multiple credible sources is a significant redesign of Apple’s user interface that will affect the iPhone, iPad, and Mac environments.
iOS 19 and Its Sleek “Glassy” Aesthetic
This year’s emphasis lies on the iPhone’s interface. Notably, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has indicated that a “radical software redesign” is forthcoming for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Insights into this potential transformation are beginning to emerge.
According to reports from notable leaker Jon Prosser, an early preview of the iOS 19 redesign has been provided, depicting a “glassy” interface characterized by a softer aesthetic and shimmering, glass-like elements, particularly in features such as a new keyboard design that appears to hover above the display.
Prosser envisions that this new appearance will permeate the operating system, influencing everything from notifications to various pop-up dialogs, ultimately leading to a contemporary look akin to the recently unveiled Apple Invites app.
Conversely, Gurman suspects that the modifications will extend further, featuring new rounded icons for the home screen and a slew of reimagined components resulting in a modernized appearance for all standard Apple applications.
macOS to Undergo Similar Evolution
Based on what has been gathered thus far, macOS 16 is expected to receive a similar visual revamp, ensuring greater consistency in aesthetics between Mac and iPhone interfaces.
As per Mark Gurman, macOS will adopt a more translucent appearance, mirroring the visionOS and the anticipated changes in iOS 19. This refreshing look is expected to extend to applications, menus, and system functionalities such as pop-ups.
Rumors of a New Mac Pro
The Mac Pro remains the final Mac model that has yet to be upgraded to an M3 or M4 chip, currently operating with the M2 Ultra chip. Speculation suggests that a new iteration featuring an M3 Extreme chip, surpassing the M3 Ultra found in the latest Mac Studio, could be on the horizon.
Reported again by Gurman, the updated Mac Pro is expected to be announced in the first half of the year. While WWDC traditionally focuses on software announcements, there are instances where hardware reveals make unexpected appearances.
