Samsung Unveils New Foldable Phones and Smartwatches
At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung showcased its new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. While these devices feature incremental upgrades from their predecessors, Samsung also highlighted the introduction of the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
Galaxy Z Fold 7
Taking center stage is the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While it may visually echo the Fold 6, significant enhancements have been made. Notably, the Fold 7 is now slimmer, measuring just 8.9mm when folded—down from 12.1mm—while its unfolded thickness is 4.2mm. Weighing in at 7.62 ounces (216g), it is noticeably lighter than both the Fold 6 (8.43 ounces or 239g) and the Galaxy S25 Ultra (7.69 ounces or 218g).
The display on the Fold 7 has also seen a size increase. The main foldable screen now spans eight inches, compared to the 7.6 inches of the Fold 6. Meanwhile, the cover screen has been expanded to 6.5 inches, adopting a 21:9 aspect ratio similar to that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. As was the case with its predecessor, the Fold 7 retains its spill and splash resistance, achieving IP48 ratings for both water and dust.
Inside, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor alongside 12GB of RAM, providing robust performance for both productivity and gaming endeavors. Storage options vary, with choices of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The battery capacity remains at 4,400 mAh, but it supports 25W Super Fast Wired and 15W wireless charging capabilities.
On the camera front, the Fold 7 features a notable upgrade with a 200MP primary wide lens, an increase from the 50MP sensor in the Fold 6. The photography setup also includes a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens, while both front-facing cameras on the cover screen and main display are 10MP, positioned above the display. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be available in several colors, including Jetblack, Blue Shadow, and Silver Shadow.
Starting today, pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are open at a price of $2,120, with shipping scheduled for July 25th.
Galaxy Z Flip 7
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features subtle upgrades. The most prominent change is a slightly larger front Flex Window, now at 4.1 inches compared to 3.4 inches on the Flip 6. Additionally, the main foldable display has increased to 6.9 inches from 6.7 inches.
This model is powered by the Samsung Exynos 2500 chip, coupled with 12GB of RAM. In contrast to the Fold 7, the Flip 7 benefits from an improved battery, offering a 4,300 mAh capacity, a modest rise from the Flip 6’s 4,000 mAh. It also features IP48 water and dust resistance, paralleling the Fold 7’s specifications.
The camera array mirrors that of the Flip 6, consisting of a 50MP wide sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, with a 10MP selfie camera that remains unchanged. Storage options for the Flip 7 include 256GB and 512GB, and it will be available in Jetblack, Blue Shadow, and Coral Red.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 commence today at $1,220, with the device expected to ship on July 25th.
Galaxy Watch 8 Series
Alongside the foldable phones, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch 8 series. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic returns, equipped with a physical rotating bezel which enhances navigation without obstructing the touchscreen.
The Watch 8 Classic is available in a single size of 46mm, featuring a 1.47-inch display. Conversely, the Galaxy Watch 8 comes in two options: a 40mm model with a 1.31-inch display and a 44mm model with a 1.47-inch display.
These smartwatches are powered by the Exynos W1000 chip, backed with 2GB of RAM. This chipset runs Wear OS, enhanced by Samsung’s One UI 8 interface. The battery capacities vary, with the 40mm model offering 325 mAh, the 44mm model 435 mAh, and the Classic version boasting a 445 mAh battery. Both models will be presented in black and silver.
Starting today, pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch 8 series are available at $380 for the standard model and $500 for the Classic version, with shipping set for July 25th.
