The Chromecast is no longer available, but Google is stepping up its game with a streaming box designed to compete with Apple TV. While it lacks the portability of its predecessor, this Prime Day offers the Google TV Streamer 4K for under $100, making it an attractive option.
The Google TV Streamer 4K features a larger design and an upgraded processor, boasting 32GB of storage for additional apps, 4GB of RAM, and an ethernet port for stable connections. Notably, it supports streaming of 4K HDR content at up to 60 frames per second and offers compatibility with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The included remote also features voice control functionality and has a “find my remote” feature.
The enhanced Google TV experience allows connectivity with Google Home devices, enabling you to view your video doorbell or manage your Nest thermostat from the comfort of your couch. If you own Pixel Buds 2 Pro, you can enjoy your content with tailored spatial audio.
A review by Brent Rose described the Google TV Streamer 4K as “outstanding,” highlighting it as “substantially faster and smoother” during use. While it may take up space on your entertainment setup, it’s sleek enough that it won’t create any unsightly protrusions like the previous Chromecast design.
