Keeping track of Netflix’s pricing can feel like a challenge due to the frequent increases the company implements. This is especially true for those who wish to share their accounts. As of May 2023, free password sharing was eliminated in the U.S. This means if you want to share your login with someone, you’ll incur an additional monthly fee.

But it’s not just the sharing fees that have risen. During the earnings call for Q4 2024, Netflix confirmed an increase in costs for all its plans, including those for extra users. Below is an overview of the current subscription tiers as of January 2025.

Standard with Ads ($7.99 per month)

The “Standard with ads” package is Netflix’s most affordable option. It debuted in November 2022 and provides subscribers access to most of the platform’s extensive catalog of movies and television series, along with its mobile gaming offerings. Locating updated lists of content excluded from this ad-supported plan can be tricky (the latest useful guide is a 2024 article from Variety), but typically, a lock icon next to a title signals it’s unavailable on this plan.

This tier allows content streaming on two devices simultaneously, in “Full HD” (1080p), which means it does not support 4K HDR viewing. Additionally, downloads can be performed on two devices. Importantly, adding other users to this plan is not permitted. Initially priced at $6.99, the cost was raised to $7.99 in January.

Standard ($17.99 per month, plus $8.99 for an extra user)

One key distinction between the Standard plan and the ad-supported version is the absence of advertisements. With the Standard plan, you can enjoy uninterrupted streaming of all content available on Netflix. Titles can also be downloaded to two supported devices at any time.

This plan now permits adding an individual outside your household for an additional $8.99 per month, which is an increase of $1 from previous pricing, bringing the total to $26.98 with the added user. However, only one extra user may be integrated into your account.

Despite being ad-free and offering full access to the content library, the video quality remains limited to 1080p. For those seeking 4K HDR viewing, a higher-priced option is required.

Premium ($24.99 per month, plus $8.99 for each extra user)

The Premium subscription represents the pinnacle of Netflix’s offerings. Subscribers enjoy unrestricted access to the entire content library, including the option to stream in 4K HDR whenever it’s available. This plan allows for streaming on up to four devices simultaneously and downloading titles on up to six devices.

Previously priced at $22.99, Netflix has now raised the cost of this plan to $24.99. Users can add up to two additional outside members to their subscriptions, which can quickly escalate the monthly charge: a single added user brings the total to $33.98, while two users push it to $42.97. One can only imagine informing someone in 2022 that the monthly expense for Netflix could exceed $40 while watching the fourth season of Stranger Things.
