Yellow Words in Today’s Connections

The yellow category is considered straightforward. Its theme is NUTRITION LABEL INFORMATION, featuring the words: FAT, IRON, PROTEIN, SODIUM.

Green Words in Today’s Connections

The green category is the next easiest. The theme here is METAPHOR FOR THE UNEXPECTED, comprising the words: BOMBSHELL, CURVEBALL, TWIST, WRENCH.

Blue Words in Today’s Connections

The blue category poses moderate difficulty. Its theme relates to COMPONENTS OF A SPREADSHEET, which includes: CELL, COLUMN, ROW, SHEET.

Playing Connections: A Quick Guide

A detailed guide to playing Connections is available, but here’s a brief overview of the gameplay:

First, access the Connections game either on the New York Times website or via their Games app (formerly known as the Crossword app). The game board consists of 16 tiles, each displaying a word or phrase. Your objective is to select a group of four tiles that share a common theme, which could either be straightforward (like RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, and SNOW, all types of precipitation) or require wordplay (such as BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH, all relating to lists: bucket list, guest list, etc.).

Select four tiles and click the Submit button. Correct guesses will reveal the category and color (yellow indicates the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple). Incorrect guesses permit another attempt.

Your aim is to correctly identify all four groups. If you accumulate four incorrect guesses before completing the game, the answers will be displayed.

Winning Strategies for Connections

The key to winning Connections is recognizing the designed complexities in groupings. Overlapping categories are common, so preparation for this is essential. An example: a previous puzzle featured six breakfast foods—BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL—but BACON was found in a group of painters while EGG belonged with items that come by the dozen (including JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH). Always ensure that your selected four are the only members of that category before submitting.

If you’re at a standstill, consider examining words that appear disconnected from others. If WHISTLER evokes thoughts of the artwork known as “Whistler’s Mother,” you may be onto a clue. Previous solutions support this method, like when a query into a lesser-known painter named Close ended up being beneficial.

Another effective strategy, of course, is to review hints, which is why daily tips are provided. Be sure to return tomorrow for the next puzzle!
