Here are some spoiler-free clues for today’s groupings in Connections:

  • Yellow category – An action related to divulging juicy information.

  • Green category – Buttons tied to a well-known technology corporation.

  • Blue category – Entities you might listen to, often referred to by their shortened titles.

  • Purple category – A classic baked item associated with slicing.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Today’s Connections!

We’re about to disclose some answers, so proceed with caution if you want to avoid spoilers. (The complete solution can be found a bit further down.)

Navigating the Challenging Elements

DISH and CUP do not belong together, whereas CUP and PAN do correlate.

Remember, DISH serves as a verb.

PROGRESSIVE is frequently shortened to “prog” within musical contexts.

RETURN represents a key used to initiate a new text line.

Categories Featured in Today’s Connections

  • Yellow: DIVULGE

  • Green: MAC KEYBOARD TERMINOLOGY

  • Blue: ACRONYMS IN ROCK MUSIC

  • Purple: ___ CAKE

Double Warning: The Solution Lies Below

Ready to uncover the answers to today’s Connections? They are revealed below.

Yellow Words in Today’s Connections

The yellow category features the simplest theme. Today, the yellow grouping revolves around DIVULGE, comprising: BLAB, DISH, SPILL, TELL.

Green Words in Today’s Connections

The green category poses the second-lowest challenge. Here, the theme is MAC KEYBOARD TERMINOLOGY, and the words include: COMMAND, CONTROL, OPTION, RETURN.

Blue Words in Today’s Connections

The blue category is moderately difficult. It focuses on ACRONYMS IN ROCK MUSIC, which include: ALTERNATIVE, EMOTIONAL, POPULAR, PROGRESSIVE.

Purple Words in Today’s Connections

The purple category is the most demanding. The theme is ___ CAKE, and the words consist of: CHEESE, CUP, PAN, SHORT.

Solving Today’s Connections Puzzle

DISH, CUP, and PAN might seem compatible, but DISH is better linked as a verb with SPILL, TELL, and BLAB, all of which deal with sharing secrets. 🟨

OPTION and ALTERNATIVE might relate. ALTERNATIVE connects with PROGRESSIVE as well. Thus, it seems I’ve identified the group involving ALTERNATIVE, PROGRESSIVE, EMOTIONAL, and POPULAR as genres commonly abbreviated: Alt, prog, emo, and pop. 🟦

COMMAND, CONTROL, RETURN, and OPTION are buttons found on an Apple keyboard. 🟩

This leaves SHORT, CUP, PAN, and CHEESE. Pondering CHEESE pizza, CHEESE sticks, PAN pizza, SHORT stop, and PAN flutes didn’t yield clarity. However, ___ CAKE suddenly clicks. 🟪

Playing Connections: A Guide

A comprehensive Connections tutorial is available, but here’s a brief overview of the gameplay:

First, access the Connections game either through the New York Times website or via their Games app (previously known as the Crossword app). You’ll encounter a layout featuring 16 tiles, each displaying a word or phrase. Your mission is to identify four tiles that share a connection, typically representing the same category (for instance, RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, and SNOW are all forms of precipitation) or incorporating wordplay (like BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH, which are types of lists: bucket list, guest list, and so forth).

Choose four items and click the Submit button. If your selection is accurate, the corresponding category along with color will be displayed (yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and then purple). If incorrect, you’ll be granted another opportunity to try.

The objective is to accurately identify all four groups. Failing to do so within four mistakes will conclude the game, revealing the answers.

Strategies for Winning Connections

Understanding that groupings are crafted to be challenging is key to excelling at Connections. Anticipate seeing overlapping categories. An example of this was a puzzle that included six breakfast items: BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL. Unexpectedly, BACON was part of a collection of painters along with CLOSE, MUNCH, and WHISTLER, while EGG fit into a collection of items typically counted by the dozen (including JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH). Hence, refrain from pressing “submit” until you’ve verified that your collection of four comprises only those items.

If stuck, consider examining words that seem unrelated to the others. For instance, if WHISTLER triggers thoughts of the painting known as “Whistler’s Mother,” you might be on the right track. That approach often uncovers distinct connections not immediately apparent.

When faced with difficulties, consulting helpful hints can be beneficial, which is precisely why these tips are shared each day. Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s puzzle!
