Caution: Solutions Await Below

Ready to uncover today’s Connections solutions? The answers are presented below.

Identifying the Yellow Words

The yellow category is deemed the easiest. Its theme revolves around ENTHUSIASM, featuring the following words: GUSTO, PASSION, RELISH, ZEST.

Identifying the Green Words

The green category is anticipated to be the second simplest. The theme centers on “MANY” IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, including: BEAUCOUP, MOLTO, MUCHO, MULTI.

Identifying the Blue Words

The blue category is recognized as moderately challenging. This category pertains to RECTANGULAR PRISMS and includes: BRICK, FISH TANK, MICROWAVE, SHOE BOX.

Identifying the Purple Words

The purple category is regarded as the most complex. Its theme involves words RHYMING WITH U.S. COINS, comprising: JENNY, LIME, MORTAR, PICKLE.

Strategy for Solving Today’s Connections

The board today is quite intriguing! It seems plausible that there could be a collection of terms meaning “abundance” in various languages—MUCHO (Spanish), BEAUCOUP (French), MOLTO (Italian). The fourth term hasn’t surfaced yet.

On the other hand, GUSTO, ZEST, PASSION, and RELISH may all suggest a profound interest or affection.

As for JENNY, it seems peculiar. It correlates to “penny” with an altered first letter, which aligns with terms like LIME (for dime), PICKLE (for nickel), and it’s insightful to realize it’s actually about the first sounds that are different, with MORTAR representing “quarter.”

From my observation, MICROWAVE, SHOEBOX, BRICK, and FISH TANK appear to cluster together as items that take on a box-like shape. This reasoning justifies the pairing with MUCHO, BEAUCOUP, and MOLTO.

That leaves the groupings as MUCHO, BEAUCOUP, MOLTO, and MULTI, indicating that MULTI is simply the Latin prefix for “many.”

How to Engage with Connections

A detailed guide to playing Connections is available, but here’s a quick overview of the rules:

Start by accessing the Connections game either on the New York Times site or within their Games app (formerly known as the Crossword app). You’ll find a board consisting of 16 tiles, each displaying a word or phrase. The challenge lies in identifying a group of four tiles sharing a connection. These associations could pertain to a common category (for instance: RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, and SNOW are all types of precipitation) or involve wordplay (like BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH representing types of lists: bucket list, guest list, etc.).

Select four items and press the Submit button. A correct choice reveals the category and color (yellow signifies the easiest group; followed by green, blue, and finally purple). Conversely, an incorrect guess presents another chance to try again.

Victory is achieved by accurately identifying all four groups. However, if you accumulate four incorrect guesses before finishing, the game concludes, and the answers will be disclosed.

Winning Tactics for Connections

The key to mastering Connections is recognizing that the categorizations are crafted to be deceptive. Prepare for interlacing groups. For instance, one puzzle included six breakfast items: BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL, yet BACON formed part of a grouping pertaining to artists along with CLOSE, MUNCH, and WHISTLER, while EGG was part of a group related to items typically found in dozens (like JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH). Therefore, avoid clicking “submit” until you’re certain your selected four includes only those four items.

If you find yourself at an impasse, another tactic involves examining the words that appear unrelated to the rest. If WHISTLER prompts thoughts of the painting known as “Whistler’s Mother,” it could hint at a deeper connection. In solving that instance, a search for a painter named Close became necessary because Close didn’t align with any visible themes.

An additional avenue to success, particularly when feeling stuck, is to consult helpful hints—an approach we embrace daily. Stay tuned for the next puzzle tomorrow!

Enjoy the challenge and happy puzzling!
