Yellow Words in Today’s Connections

The yellow grouping is identified as the simplest. Its theme is OWNED, and the words included are: BORE, HAD, HELD, and POSSESSED.

Green Words in Today’s Connections

The green grouping is categorized as the second simplest. The theme is SLEEP ACTIVITIES, comprising: DREAM, DROOL, SNORE, and TALK.

Blue Words in Today’s Connections

The blue grouping is considered the second hardest. Its theme relates to MOVIE SERIES RELEASED IN 2024 and includes: ALIEN, GLADIATOR, VENOM, and WICKED.

Purple Words in Today’s Connections

The purple grouping is viewed as the most difficult. The theme is ___ HOUSE, with the words: FULL, GINGERBREAD, HAUNTED, and WHITE.

Approach to Solving Today’s Connections

Several film franchises scheduled for 2024 releases emerge: WICKED, GLADIATOR, VENOM, and ALIEN. However, confidence in this grouping requires further verification.

The words DREAM, SNORE, TALK, and DROOL seem likely to unite as potential sleep behaviors. 🟩

GINGERBREAD points towards the concept of a GINGERBREAD house, and nearby, the terms HAUNTED, FULL, and WHITE signal an entire category related to ___ HOUSE. 🟪

This increasingly solidifies the movie category’s plausibility. Now, let’s check! 🟦 Look at that!

This leaves us with HAD, POSSESSED, BORE, and HELD, all relating to the act of ownership or retention. BORE might even refer to “BORE witness to,” which indeed is the past tense of “bear.” 🟨

Playing Connections: A Quick Overview

A comprehensive guide to playing Connections is available, but here’s a concise reminder of the process:

First, access the Connections game either on the New York Times site or via the Games app (previously known as the Crossword app). You’ll encounter a board composed of 16 tiles, each showing a word or phrase. Your objective is to choose a set of four tiles that share a common trait. Frequently, they belong to a similar category (for instance: RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, and SNOW are types of precipitation), but sometimes wordplay is involved (for example, BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH represent lists: bucket list, guest list, etc.).

After selecting four items, click the Submit button. Success will reveal the corresponding category and color (yellow represents the easiest, followed by green, blue, and finally purple). If your selection is incorrect, you’ll have an opportunity to try again.

A victory occurs when all four groups are correctly identified. Conversely, if you make four mistakes before finishing, the game concludes, and the answers are displayed.

Winning Strategies for Connections

An essential aspect of success in Connections is that the groupings can be quite challenging. Anticipate overlaps among groups. For instance, a previous puzzle featured six breakfast items: BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL. However, BACON was part of a group of artists along with CLOSE, MUNCH, and WHISTLER, while EGG belonged to a grouping of items typically found by the dozen (including JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH). Therefore, delay clicking “submit” until it’s confirmed that your selection consists of only those four specific items.

If you find yourself at an impasse, consider examining words that appear unrelated to others. For example, should WHISTLER evoke thoughts of the painting known as “Whistler’s Mother,” that could be a clue. When solving such puzzles, leveraging a search engine to investigate the meaning of other seemingly out-of-place words, like Close, can also be beneficial.

In challenging moments, utilizing hints can be invaluable – which is precisely why these pointers are shared daily. Don’t forget to return tomorrow for the next puzzle!

Happy puzzling!
