Your Guide to the Quordle Solution for May 30, 2025
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Quordle #1222! For those seeking help with the latest Quordle challenge, continue reading for hints, advice, and ultimately the answer.
Understanding Quordle
Quordle is available here on Merriam-Webster’s website, with a fresh puzzle released each day.
This game offers a unique twist on the daily Wordle format from the New York Times, where players make guesses to uncover a five-letter mystery word within a limited number of attempts. In Quordle, however, you tackle four Wordle-style puzzles simultaneously, with your guesses affecting all four at once. To account for the heightened difficulty, players are allowed nine guesses (or twelve in “Chill” mode; eight in “Extreme”), unlike the standard six in Wordle.
Your quest begins with a five-letter word guess. Each letter in the four sections will turn green if correct, yellow if the letter is present but misplaced, and gray if that letter is absent from the secret words.

Strategy for Completing Today’s Quordle
Beginning with the word SLATE sets a solid foundation. Next, I opted for BLACK for the lower left quadrant—and it clicked immediately!
Recognizing the positions of the yellow letters initiated the guess for the upper right as CAUSE, and that was spot on.
Now, contemplating the bottom right, I deduced it might contain the letter T at either the beginning or second position. Although TRUCE was ruled out due to the absence of C, could it start with a TH? That path led nowhere either. What if it contained repeated letters? The term ETUDE popped into my mind, though it felt obscure. Surprisingly, that was indeed the right choice!
Optimal Starter Words for Quordle
What’s the best first guess? Insights from Wordle can serve as a reference.
Effective starter words usually consist of frequently occurring letters, maximizing your chance of uncovering yellow and green squares to guide further guesses. While there’s no definitive “best” initial word, the New York Times’s Wordle analysis tool recommends beginning with one of the following:
-
CRANE
-
TRACE
-
SLANT
-
CRATE
-
CARTE
Additionally, an MIT study discovered that starting with the following words can eliminate the most options right away:
-
SALET
-
REAST
-
TRACE
-
CRATE
-
SLATE
Other viable options might include ARISE or ROUND. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO are beneficial for introducing more vowels, but starting with a consonant-rich word, like RENTS or CLAMP, could also be a wise strategy. Select a tactic that works for you and observe the results.
