Important Update: Transitioning from PayPal in Google Wallet
If you currently have your PayPal account associated with Google Wallet for transactions, it’s crucial to revise your payment settings immediately. Google is discontinuing PayPal integration, meaning that users in the United States will find their PayPal accounts and transaction histories purged from their digital wallets effective June 13.
This change necessitates that Google Wallet users seek an alternative payment option to replace PayPal. Those with recurring charges, such as subscriptions linked to a PayPal account, must visit each merchant’s website individually to refresh their payment details.
Previously, linking PayPal to Google Wallet allowed users to manage their payment cards and bank accounts through PayPal rather than having to track them separately within their digital wallets. While Google ceased allowing new PayPal connections as of April 11, existing links still permitted payment via previously linked PayPal accounts until this recent announcement.
It’s worth noting that while full PayPal integration will no longer be accessible, Google Wallet will still accept PayPal-branded debit cards, and users in Germany will retain complete PayPal functionality within their Google Wallets.
How to Revise Your Payment Method in Google Wallet
To ensure continued use of Google Wallet after the discontinuation of PayPal integration, at least one credit or debit card must be added to your Google account.
