Here’s how the completed puzzle board appears:

Approach to Solving Today’s Strands
The current puzzle may showcase well-known sporting positions such as “infielder” or “pitcher.” Let’s delve deeper.
The earlier hypothesis proved unfruitful—there are no visible field positions on the board.
Spotted PIRATE in the top-right section. 🔵 Perhaps it relates to sporting team mascots, particularly Pittsburgh PIRATEs? It seems baseball teams are the focus here.
BREWER occurs in the upper-left. 🔵 (Milwaukee BREWERs.)
GIANT is located at the bottom-right. (San Francisco GIANTs.)
Interestingly, TIGER is absent from the thematic list.
BRAVE can be found in the bottom-left. 🔵 (Atlanta BRAVEs.)
DODGER is positioned centrally. 🔵 (Los Angeles DODGERs.)
The spangram is now visible, forming a diamond pattern that echoes a baseball diamond: NATIONALLEAGUE. 🟡
The word MARLIN sits in the center. 🔵 (Miami MARLINs.)

Playing Strands
You can engage with the Strands game via the New York Times website or through their NYT Games app.
Upon starting, a game board littered with letters will appear, accompanied by a thematic clue hinting at the essence of the board—like “Better with age.” Your challenge is to discover the hidden words within the board that align with this theme.
A Fusion of Crossword and Word Search
The most crucial term to identify is the “spangram,” which encapsulates the puzzle’s theme more clearly. For example, in the “Better with age” theme, the spangram is FERMENTED, indicating products that indeed improve over time. This spangram will stretch across the entire board, either horizontally or vertically (hence its name). When spotted, it is highlighted in yellow, and identifying it often streamlines the rest of the puzzle-solving process.
In Strands, words can be arranged in any direction (upward, downward, leftward, rightward, and diagonally) without reusing letters. There is only one correct solution available. When a word is successfully identified (like KOMBUCHA, MISO, or KIMCHI), it will be highlighted in blue.
If assistance is needed while solving, players can submit any non-theme words of four letters or more to earn hints. By entering three non-theme words, the “Hint” button becomes available; clicking it will highlight the letters of one theme word for your aid. However, you will still need to connect the highlighted letters correctly to form the theme word. Should a hint already exist and be used again before solving, the order of letters for that word will be disclosed.
Winning Strands
In contrast to Connections and Wordle, Strands cannot be lost. Submitted guesses will either identify a correct answer, grant credit toward a hint, or trigger a bouncing effect for invalid entries indicating they are either too short or not the right word. There is no limit to guesses or time constraints.
Victory is achieved when every letter on the board has been utilized, signaling that the spangram and all theme words have been found. Upon completion, a shareable card appears that displays your performance for the day: blue dots 🔵 represent the theme words you’ve discovered, the yellow dot 🟡 signifies the spangram’s identification, and a lightbulb 💡 indicates words for which hints were provided.
