If you’re unfamiliar with Prime Day, our comprehensive guide on essential details will give you all the information you need. Note that prices and inventory levels may fluctuate frequently.
The Kindle Paperwhite saw a much-needed update last year, enhancing its screen dimensions and boosting processing speed. The newly introduced 7-inch display is a bit larger than its predecessor and, combined with a faster processor, offers a significant performance upgrade. Additionally, the display boasts a more gentle white background with reduced blue tint, enhancing both contrast and the overall reading experience.
This Prime Day, the Kindle Paperwhite is receiving unprecedented discounts. The model featuring lock screen ads is available for $124.99 (with a previous low of $129.99), reduced from its regular price of $159.99. The ad-free variant (the recommended choice) is now priced at $144.99, down from $179.99.
An Excellent First Kindle
If you own the 11th Gen Kindle Paperwhite, there’s little urgency to upgrade. However, for those using an older Kindle or considering their first e-reader, there’s no better opportunity than now with the latest model. The Paperwhite features a 300 ppi display with 16 levels of adjustable background lighting, plus an option for warm lighting.
Since 2010, when e-books entered the scene with the first generation of Nook e-readers, the Kindle Paperwhite stands out. It surpasses the base Kindle—though the latter also has a 300 ppi display—in speed and clarity.
PCMag corroborates this with a review awarding the 12th Gen Kindle Paperwhite 4.5 stars and naming it an Editor’s Choice. The review highlights that “Amazon’s 2024 Kindle Paperwhite builds on the success of its predecessor by enlarging the screen and enhancing speed,” emphasizing that it delivers significant value at a competitive price.
Additional Kindle Models on Sale
This Prime Day features discounts across all major Kindle models. If you’re looking for something beyond the Paperwhite, consider the Paperwhite Signature Edition, which offers 32GB of storage, a variety of color options, adaptive lighting, and support for wireless charging, all priced down from $199.99 to $149.99.
If color is a must-have for your Kindle, consider the Kindle Colorsoft, which has dropped from $279.99 to $179.99, representing substantial savings. However, it’s worth noting—according to a review from DailyHackly’s associate tech editor Michelle Ehrhardt—that the Kindle Colorsoft does not quite live up to the expectations due to numerous drawbacks.
The standard Kindle sees discounts as well. The ad-supported version is available for just $84.99 (down from $109.99), while the ad-free version is now priced at $104.99 (originally priced at $129.99).
