Discover the Latest Dance Phenomena on TikTok
From hits like WAP to trends such as Wednesday and The Box, TikTok remains a hotbed for dance crazes. Recently, the platform has seen the emergence of three intriguing new styles: dwerking, pwerking, and bwerking.
These moves serve as fresh variations of twerking. The term “twerking” is officially defined by Merriam-Webster as a type of dancing that is sexually suggestive, featuring quick, repetitive hip movements and shaking of the buttocks, especially while squatting. To wrap it up, the “B” in bwerking refers to “boobs.”
While the terminology might be fresh, these dance trends trace back to a long-standing tradition of expressive movement. Older generations are well aware that lively dancing has always been a part of social culture. Moves centered around hip thrusts have been staples in dance for ages, and similar styles have seen various forms over the past century—formerly popular as “The Shimmy.”
