Your Guide to Today’s Wordle for February 12, 2025

Searching for the answer to today’s Wordle? You’re in the right place! This post will provide hints, strategies, and ultimately reveal the answer. The puzzle today is quite manageable; I cracked it in three attempts. Heads up: spoilers ahead for Wordle #1,334 from February 12! If you’re keen on some clues followed by the solution, continue scrolling.

How to Engage with Wordle

Access Wordle here on the New York Times website. Every day at midnight, a new puzzle drops based on your local time zone.

Your first task is to guess a five-letter word. The letters will turn different colors to indicate if you’ve guessed correctly: green for the right letter in the right position, yellow for a correct letter in the wrong place, and gray for letters that are not in the secret word at all. For additional tips, explore this comprehensive guide, or check out this advanced strategy guide. More information can be found at the end of this article, following hints and the solution.

Ready for some hints? Let’s dive in!

Uncommon Letters in Today’s Puzzle

Common letters can be identified via the traditional typesetter sequence ETAOIN SHRDLU. (It’s worth memorizing! Say it as “Edwin Shirdloo,” imagining it as an acquaintance’s name.)

Today, four letters from this mnemonic appear frequently, alongside a fifth that is also fairly common.

The Answer to Yesterday’s Wordle

Yesterday’s challenge was more straightforward. The hint was “related to a sports event,” and the answer included four frequently occurring letters along with one that is also fairly common.

The solution was SCORE.

Understanding Wordle Basics

The premise of Wordle is simple: guess the secret word of the day. Upon entering the game, you’ll encounter a blank grid for letters, and your task is to initiate the game by entering any five-letter word.

Once you make a guess, colors provide feedback: Green signifies a correct letter in the right place. For instance, if you guess PARTY and the target word is PURSE, the letters P and R will show as green.

  • Yellow indicates that the letter is in the word, but not in the correct position. For example, if you guess PARTY and the actual word is ROAST, R, A, and T will appear in yellow.

  • Gray shows that the letter is absent from the solution. So if you guess PARTY and get all gray, the answer cannot be PURSE or ROAST.

Using this information, make further guesses while aiming to discover the correct word before your six attempts run out.

Optimal Starter Words for Wordle

What should your opening guess be? The most effective starter words typically feature common letters, enhancing the likelihood of uncovering yellow and green squares to aid in your subsequent guesses. If your guess results in all gray tiles, that still provides valuable information, helping eliminate options. While there isn’t a single “best” starter, the analysis from the New York Times has indicated these options:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

Moreover, an analysis by MIT suggests starting with the following for maximum potential elimination:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Other effective choices could include ARISE or ROUND. Although words like ADIEU or AUDIO introduce more vowels, it may be strategic to prioritize consonants with initials like RENTS or CLAMP. Select a method that resonates with your approach and see how it unfolds.

Strategies for Success in Wordle

Numerous guides on Wordle strategy are available, suitable for those keen on mastering the game. For instance, this guide emphasizes utilizing consonants effectively, while this one discusses a method centered on frequent letters. Another advanced overview can be found in this article, which presents a three-step system to identify clues while maximizing your chances of winning efficiently.

A critical distinction between Wordle victors and those who don’t succeed lies in the winners’ ability to utilize guesses to gather insights about the letters involved. For instance, if you ascertain that a word concludes with -OUND, avoid expending all your guesses on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; instead, consolidate your consonants and try MARSH. If H highlights in yellow, you’re one step closer to the answer.

Additionally, note that the original Wordle utilized a fixed list of around 2,300 answers, but since being acquired by the NYT, the game now has a curator who selectively chooses answers. Some solutions may be slightly challenging or topical, as evidenced when FEAST was the answer one Thanksgiving. Thus, themes should be considered.

Exploring Wordle Alternatives

If five-letter guessing games pique your interest, check out these top alternatives to Wordle, organized by difficulty:

  • Wheeldle, which allows continuous play with successive puzzles

  • Dordle and Quordle, where you tackle two or four puzzles simultaneously using the same guesses. Also, explore Octordle with eight puzzles, and Sedecordle with sixteen.

  • Waffle, a game where presents several five-letter words arranged in a grid; your goal is to rearrange the letters to reach a solution.

  • Absurdle, a game that changes its answer after each guess, while still adhering to previous hints. The objective is to restrict the possibilities until only one correct word remains.

  • Squabble, where players compete against each other in a timed challenge. Prolonged thinking leads to damage; the last one standing wins.

  • Antiwordle, where the aim is to avoid guessing the daily solution. Correct guesses must reuse letters, so the longer it takes to guess, the better you play.

Enjoy the puzzle and happy Wordling!
