Wordle Tips and Tricks for February 24, 2025

Searching for the Wordle solution for today, February 24, 2025? You are in the right place! This post will provide hints, strategies, and ultimately reveal the answer to today’s puzzle. It’s a relatively straightforward challenge; I cracked it in four attempts. Warning: Spoilers for Wordle #1,346 are found below! Continue reading for some helpful clues (and the answer) for today’s Wordle.

Playing Wordle

You can find Wordle on the New York Times website. A fresh puzzle unlocks every day at midnight in your local timezone.

To start, guess a five-letter word. The letters will change color: green indicates a correct letter in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but misplaced, and gray signifies the letter isn’t part of the daily solution. For further guidance, refer to this comprehensive guide and this strategy guide for advanced tactics. Additional details can be found at the end of this article, following the hints and solution.

Ready for some clues? Here we go!

Are There Any Uncommon Letters in Today’s Wordle?

Common letters can be identified through the traditional typesetters’ mnemonic, ETAOIN SHRDLU. (A handy phrase to remember! Say it like a name: “Edwin Shirdloo,” as if he’s a close acquaintance.)

Today’s word mostly consists of common letters, with one exception which is also quite frequently used.

Yesterday’s Wordle Solution

Yesterday’s puzzle was on the simpler side. The hint was “swims in the sea,” and the solution comprised five commonly used letters.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer was OTTER.

Understanding Wordle Basics

The goal of Wordle is to uncover the hidden word of the day. Upon starting the game, players will see a blank grid of letters. The first move is up to you: enter any five-letter guess.

Utilize the color feedback to deduce information about the word: Green indicates a correct letter in the correct position. (For instance, if you guess PARTY and the actual word is PURSE, both P and R will show as green.)

  • Yellow indicates that the letter exists in the word but is in the incorrect position. (For example, if you guessed PARTY but the solution is ROAST, the R, A, and T would appear yellow.)

  • Gray signifies that the letter does not belong to the solution. (If all letters in PARTY show gray, then the correct word CANNOT be PURSE or ROAST.)

With this knowledge, continue guessing different words in an effort to arrive at the correct solution before exhausting your six attempts.

Optimal Starting Words for Wordle

What should be your first guess? The best starting words usually consist of frequently occurring letters, boosting the chances of appearing yellow or green. If you receive entirely gray outcomes with common letters, that information still contributes to your letter elimination strategy. There’s no definitive “perfect” starting word, but recommendations from the New York Times’s Wordle analysis bot suggest the following entries:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

Additionally, an investigation from MIT identified the following for maximizing eliminations on the first attempt:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Other effective choices are ARISE or ROUND. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO introduce more vowels, but many argue a strategy focusing on consonants might be preferable; options like RENTS or CLAMP may yield better results. Experiment and observe what works best.

Winning Strategies for Wordle

There are several guides available focusing on Wordle strategies that may assist dedicated players. For instance, one guide elaborates on capitalizing on consonants, while another guide emphasizes utilizing the most frequent letters. In an advanced resource, a three-step method is outlined to maximize quick wins while searching for clues.

The key distinguisher between Wordle winners and those who fall short is that successful players leverage their guesses to learn about the letters in the word. If it’s known that a word ends with -OUND, avoid wasting attempts on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; instead, consider combining those consonants with a guess like MARSH. If H appears yellow, you are closer to deciphering the answer.

Take note: the original Wordle employed a list of about 2,300 solution words, but following its acquisition by the NYT, a curator now selects the solutions. Occasionally, the chosen words may be somewhat obscure or may coincide with current events, such as FEAST during Thanksgiving. Thus, remain aware of potential themes.

Alternatives to Wordle

For those who enjoy five-letter guessing games, exploring the top Wordle alternatives, categorized by difficulty, can prove satisfying. They include:

  • Wheeldle, which allows continuous gameplay through consecutive puzzles.

  • Dordle and Quordle, where you tackle two (Dordle) or four (Quordle) puzzles simultaneously with shared guesses. There are also Octordle with eight puzzles and Sedecordle, which includes sixteen.

  • Waffle, which presents multiple five-letter words scrambled in a grid, where players rearrange the letters to achieve the solution.

  • Absurdle, where the solution shifts after each guess, but must adhere to previous feedback; back it into a position where there’s only one possible solution remaining to win.

  • Squabble, a competitive version where guesses are made against others in real-time, incurring damage for taking too long between guesses; the last player remaining is declared the winner.

  • Antiwordle, where the objective is not to guess the daily solution. Players are required to reuse any letters they have correctly guessed, so the longer it takes, the better your performance in the game.

Embrace the thrill of the game and strive to enhance your Wordle skills with these insights!
