Wordle Solution for January 11, 2025: Clues, Tips, and Answer

Searching for the Wordle solution for January 11? You’ve arrived at the right spot. Here, strategies, hints, and the answer will be provided. Today’s puzzle proved to be quite a challenge; it took five attempts for a solution. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wordle number 1,302! If you’re interested in hints (and ultimately, the answer) for today’s Wordle challenge, keep reading.

Understanding How to Play Wordle

Wordle can be found on the New York Times website. A new puzzle is available each day at midnight local time.

Begin by entering a five-letter word as your guess. The colors of the letters will provide feedback: green indicates a correct letter in the exact position, yellow signals a correct letter in the wrong spot, and gray shows that the letter is not in the day’s hidden word at all. For further guidance, refer to our Wordle gameplay guide and this advanced strategy guide. Additional details are provided at the end of this post, following the hints and answers.

Ready to uncover some hints? Let’s get started!

Are There Any Uncommon Letters in Today’s Wordle?

Common letters can be identified by the mnemonic phrase ETAOIN SHRDLU. (Learn this phrase—it’s fun to remember! Say it as “Edwin Shirdloo,” as if he were a friend.)

Among today’s hints, there are three letters from this mnemonic: one is quite prevalent, while the other is less frequent.

Yesterday’s Wordle Solution

The previous day’s Wordle posed a moderate challenge. The hint was “something a baby can do,” and it included three common letters, one fairly common letter, and one less common letter.

The answer was CRAWL.

Wordle Basics: A Quick Overview

The objective of Wordle is to uncover the secret word of the day. Upon accessing the game, an empty grid appears, waiting for your input: type any five-letter word for your first guess.

Using the color feedback helps guide your next guesses: Green signifies a correct letter in the correct position (for example, a guess of PARTY against the word PURSE would highlight P and R in green), Yellow indicates a correct letter in the wrong location (e.g., the guess PARTY for the word ROAST highlights R, A, and T in yellow), and Gray means that letter is absent from the solution (for instance, if PARTY yields all gray, it cannot be PURSE or ROAST).

Following these clues, make successive guesses, aiming to identify the solution within six attempts.

Optimal Starter Words for Wordle

What’s the best initial guess? The most effective starter words usually contain common letters to boost your chances of highlighting yellow and green squares. Even if all letters yield gray, it helps narrow down your options. While there isn’t a definitive “best” starting word, according to an analysis by the New York Times, here are some recommended options:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

Additionally, a study from MIT suggests that beginning with any of the following words can eliminate the most potential answers:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Other contenders include ARISE and ROUND. While words like ADIEU and AUDIO capitalize on vowels, beginning with consonants via options like RENTS or CLAMP may also be effective. Test different strategies and see which yields the best results.

Strategies for Winning at Wordle

Comprehensive guides on Wordle strategy are available for those looking to refine their gameplay. For instance, this guide discusses how to utilize consonants efficiently, while this one emphasizes a method focusing on the most frequently used letters. Check out our advanced guide for tips on maximizing your chances while gathering hints effectively.

The key difference separating successful Wordle players from those who struggle is that winners leverage their guesses to collect data on which letters compose the word. If you determine the word must end with -OUND, avoid wasting guesses on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; instead, mix those consonants and opt for a guess like MARSH. If the H turns yellow, you have more information.

It’s also important to note that the original Wordle had a limited word list of approximately 2,300 solutions, but since it became part of the NYT, the solution list is now curated, meaning it sometimes features unique or topical words, like FEAST during Thanksgiving. Be on the lookout for thematic clues.

Alternatives to Wordle

If five-letter guessing games hold your interest, explore the top alternatives, categorized by difficulty:

  • Wheeldle – Play one engaging puzzle after another.

  • Challenge yourself with Dordle or Quordle, where you solve two or four puzzles simultaneously, using the same guesses. There are also Octordle for eight puzzles, and Sedecordle with sixteen!

  • Waffle twists things up by letting you rearrange letters in multiple scrambled five-letter words until you solve the puzzle.

  • Absurdle brings a unique challenge by changing the solution after each guess, while still adhering to previous feedback. Achieve victory by eliminating possibilities until one word remains.

  • Squabble allows you to compete against others in real-time; take too long between guesses and you incur damage. The last player standing wins.

  • Antiwordle provides an unconventional twist, requiring you to avoid guessing the correct solution while reusing any correctly guessed letters—longer guesses mean a better game!

Enjoy your Wordle experience and happy solving!
