Wordle Tips and Answer for January 19, 2025

If you need the answer to Wordle for January 19, 2025, you’ve come to the right place. This article will provide valuable hints, strategies, and ultimately reveal the solution. Today’s challenge proved to be quite tricky; I managed to solve it on the fifth try. Warning: The answer and some spoilers for Wordle #1,310 are included below! Continue reading for hints followed by the word’s solution.

How to Play Wordle

Wordle can be found here on the New York Times site. Every day at midnight local time, a new puzzle is available.

Begin by guessing a five-letter word. If the letters are correct, they will turn green; if a letter is part of the secret word but in the wrong position, it will turn yellow; and letters that do not appear will turn gray. For additional tips, visit this comprehensive guide, and check out this strategy guide for advanced players. More details can be found at the end of this post after the hints and answer.

Are you prepared for some hints? Let’s get started!

Does Today’s Wordle Include Any Rare Letters?

Common letters are identified by the classic typesetters’ mnemonic, ETAOIN SHRDLU. (It’s a good idea to memorize this! Pronounce it as “Edwin Shirdloo” as if it’s the name of a friend.)

Today’s puzzle includes four frequently used letters, while the fifth one is less common.

Yesterday’s Wordle Solution

The previous day’s Wordle was quite challenging. The hint was “not serious,” featuring a combination of four common letters and one uncommon letter.

The answer for yesterday’s puzzle was SILLY.

Introduction to the Basics of Wordle

The goal of Wordle is to identify the secret word of the day. Upon starting the game, an empty grid will be visible, and it’s your task to make the first guess by entering any five-letter word.

Utilize the colors revealed from your guesses to gather clues:

  • Green signifies a letter is correctly guessed and in the proper place. (For instance, if you guess PARTY and the actual word is PURSE, the P and R will appear green.)

  • Yellow indicates the letter is in the word but placed incorrectly. (If PARTY is guessed but the word is ROAST, R, A, and T will turn yellow.)

  • Gray denotes that the letter is absent in the solution. (Example: If PARTY results in all gray, then the solution cannot be PURSE or ROAST.)

After understanding this, make another guess and keep going until you identify the correct word or run out of attempts. You have a total of six guesses to succeed.

Optimal Starter Words for Wordle

Wondering which word to start with? The most effective starter words generally comprise common letters, boosting the chances of receiving yellow and green hints during the game. Even if all letters appear gray with a common word, that still provides valuable insights for future guesses. Although there isn’t a universally accepted best word, the New York Times’s Wordle analysis bot recommends starting with one of the following:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

Simultaneously, research from MIT indicates that starting with specific words can eliminate the most possibilities right away. These suggestions include:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Other solid candidates are ARISE or ROUND. If you prefer to introduce more vowels early on, words like ADIEU or AUDIO could do the trick, but focusing on consonants with words like RENTS or CLAMP might be more strategic. Choose a method and observe the results.

Winning Strategies for Wordle

Several strategic guides for Wordle are available for those who are serious about mastering the game. One guide explains how to leverage consonants, while another focuses on maximizing your use of common letters. Additionally, an advanced guide provides a detailed three-part strategy for quick wins.

The primary factor separating Wordle victors from the rest is that successful players effectively gather information about the letters in play. If it’s established that the word ends with -OUND, there’s no need to waste guesses on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; combine different consonants and try something like MARSH. If the H lights up yellow, you’ve gained valuable information.

Keep in mind that after being acquired by the NYT, the game now features an editor who selects the daily solutions. Some words may be slightly challenging or topical, so remember that themes may play a role in puzzle design.

Alternatives to Wordle

If five-letter guessing games are your passion, explore some engaging Wordle alternatives, categorized by their level of difficulty:

  • Wheeldle offers you the chance to play one puzzle after another

  • Dordle and Quordle require players to tackle two (Dordle) or four (Quordle) puzzles simultaneously using the same guesses. Additionally, you can try Octordle for eight puzzles or Sedecordle for sixteen.

  • Waffle presents several scrambled five-letter words in a grid; players swap letters until they solve the puzzle.

  • Absurdle is a unique take where the word changes after each guess but must remain consistent with the previous hints. The objective is to strategically narrow down options until only one word is available to guess and win.

  • Squabble allows you to compete against others in a real-time Wordle challenge. Taking longer than necessary between guesses incurs damage; the winner is the last player standing.

  • Antiwordle offers a different challenge where the objective is to avoid guessing the daily word. Players are required to reuse any letters guessed correctly, making it a game of endurance.

Happy guessing, and may your Wordle adventures be exciting!
