Wordle Challenge: Tips and Solution for March 15, 2025

Seeking the answer for today’s Wordle? You’re in the right place! This post will provide valuable hints, strategic advice, and ultimately reveal the day’s solution. The challenge for today presents a moderate level of difficulty; my successful attempt was completed in four guesses. Caution: spoilers ahead for March 15, Wordle #1,365! If you prefer some clues first, keep reading before uncovering the answer.

Understanding How to Play Wordle

You can engage with Wordle here on the New York Times website. A new puzzle becomes available daily at midnight, local time.

Begin by guessing a five-letter word. The game will provide feedback: letters will display green for correct and correctly positioned, yellow for being the right letter but in the wrong slot, and gray if the letter isn’t part of the answer. For further details, consult our Wordle gameplay guide or check this strategic advice for advanced players. Additional insights are also available at the conclusion of this article, post-hints and answer.

Ready for some clues? Let’s dive in!

Are There Any Uncommon Letters in Today’s Wordle?

Common letters can be referred to via the traditional typesetters’ mnemonic, ETAOIN SHRDLU. (Remember this! Say it as “Edwin Shirdloo,” much like a friend’s name.)

All of today’s letters are frequently used according to our mnemonic.

Yesterday’s Wordle Solution

Yesterday’s challenge was of medium difficulty, centered around the clue “pizza or cake, for instance.” The answer contained three commonly used letters, along with one fairly common and one rather usual letter.

The solution for yesterday was PIECE.

Fundamentals of Playing Wordle

The essence of Wordle is to uncover the daily secret word. Upon opening the game, you’ll find a blank grid awaiting your input. You make the initial move by typing in any five-letter word of your choice.

Utilize the color feedback as guidance: Green signifies a correct letter in its correct slot, Yellow indicates that while the letter is in the word, it is misplaced, and Gray reveals that the letter is not in the solution at all.

  • Green indicates a correct guess both in letter and position. (For instance, if you guess PARTY and the actual word is PURSE, the P and R would show green.)

  • Yellow means the letter exists in the word but is in a different location. (For example, guessing PARTY but the word is ROAST would show R, A, and T as yellow.)

  • Gray suggests the letter is completely absent from the solution word. (If PARTY yields all gray, the answer cannot be PURSE or ROAST.)

With this in mind, continue guessing additional words until the correct one reveals itself before you exhaust your attempts. You have a maximum of six guesses, after which the game concludes.

Best Initial Words for Wordle

What should be your first guess? The ideal starters are those featuring frequently used letters, enhancing the likelihood of landing yellow and green squares to facilitate further guessing. Although there isn’t a universally perfect word to start with, analysis by the New York Times’s Wordle analysis bot suggests beginning with any of the following:

  • CRANE

  • TRACE

  • SLANT

  • CRATE

  • CARTE

In addition, research from MIT suggests that these options eliminate the most words in the first round:

  • SALET

  • REAST

  • TRACE

  • CRATE

  • SLATE

Other excellent possibilities include ARISE or ROUND for initial guesses. While words like ADIEU and AUDIO introduce more vowels early on, prioritizing consonants with words like RENTS or CLAMP could be equally advantageous. Choose your method and monitor the outcomes.

Winning Strategies for Wordle

For those serious about mastering Wordle, several strategy guides may provide further insights. This guide explains how to leverage consonants effectively, while this one elaborates on how to effectively employ common letters. In this advanced guide, tactics for optimizing hint collection while maximizing winning chances are disclosed.

One key distinction between Wordle winners and those who fall short is that successful players utilize their guesses to ascertain which letters may belong to the word. If you’re aware that the target word must end in -OUND, don’t exhaust several guesses on MOUND, ROUND, SOUND, and HOUND; instead, consolidate those consonants and try MARSH. If H turns yellow, it provides valuable information.

It’s also worth noting that the original Wordle featured a list of roughly 2,300 words, but since its acquisition by the NYT, the game now includes handpicked solutions. Occasionally, these words can be tricky, which may not have been included in the earlier list, and sometimes they resonate with current events or themes, such as FEAST during Thanksgiving.

Exploring Alternatives to Wordle

If the thrill of five-letter guessing games captivates, consider these noteworthy alternatives, organized by difficulty:

  • Wheeldle, which offers continuous puzzles

  • Dordle and Quordle, which challenge you to solve two (Dordle) or four (Quordle) puzzles simultaneously using the same guesses. You can also try Octordle for eight puzzles, or Sedecordle for 16 puzzles.

  • Waffle, which Absurdle, which changes the solution after each guess, maintaining consistency with prior feedback. Strategically corner it to leave one potential answer, then guess to win.

  • Squabble, which allows you to compete against others under a timer; hesitate too long and you incur damage—only one player remains standing as the victor.

  • Antiwordle, in which you strive not to guess today’s answer. You must reselect any letters you’ve correctly identified, making lengthier gameplay more favorable.
