Discovering the New iOS 26 Ringtone: An Exciting Addition
While Apple’s recent WWDC keynote was extensive, it didn’t provide an exhaustive overview of the numerous features debuting with iOS 26. As a result, insights into additional features and minor enhancements are surfacing as beta testers delve into the upgraded operating system. Among these revelations, one delightful update has emerged: your iPhone is slated to receive a new ringtone.
More specifically, the update introduces an alternate version of one of Apple’s hallmark ringtones. After the rollout of iOS 26 beta 2, for the first time, Apple has provided an alternate rendition of its classic “Reflection” ringtone, initially launched with the iPhone X. Assuming no last-minute changes occur before the final release of iOS 26, users will notice a dropdown arrow beside “Reflection” within the ringtone settings of their devices. Selecting this will reveal two choices: “Default,” which retains the original tone, and “Alt 1,” the newly introduced ringtone.
Perhaps even more intriguing than the ringtone itself is the fact that perceptive beta testers uncovered its presence in the first beta version of iOS 26. Although “Alt 1” was not listed within the Ringtones options, the audio file was embedded within the IPSW file for the operating system, as revealed by this user on X on June 18. The ringtone itself can be heard in the embedded post below:

Notably, the “Alt 1” has similarities with the original “Reflection,” yet it possesses distinct qualities that could justify its own classification. One might speculate that it could have been given a unique name, such as “Rumination” or “Refraction,” without anyone disputing its resemblance to the existing default tone.

What do you think so far?
Nonetheless, “Alt 1” serves as a rather catchy title for a ringtone. It remains to be seen whether Apple will retain this name or perhaps introduce additional alternative tones before releasing the final version of the OS this fall.
