Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, known for his accurate insights on Apple, indicates that the public beta for iOS 26 is expected to be available “around the 23rd” of July. Additionally, a source from MacRumors shared unofficial build numbers linked to Apple’s forthcoming updates. This source typically reveals build information a day ahead of the betas’ release schedule, suggesting that the fourth developer beta for iOS 26 will be released today, possibly mirroring the first public beta expected Wednesday.
Such timing isn’t unexpected, as Apple has a history of launching public betas in July—the usual timeframe for these updates. Last year, public betas for iOS 18 and iOS 17 were both released mid-July, indicating that this public beta for iOS 26 is arriving a little later than previous versions.
Public Betas in Contrast to Developer Betas
Although participating in beta testing provides an exciting chance to experience new features prior to the official release, exercising caution is highly recommended when installing these updates on primary devices. Beta software is inherently unstable as it undergoes rigorous evaluation by Apple, meaning unexpected bugs or glitches may be encountered.

(Notably, Apple confirmed there won’t be a visionOS public beta for Vision Pro users.) To access these, enrollment in the Apple Beta Software Program is required.
Moreover, iOS 26 is not the only version undergoing testing—the latest iteration, iOS 18.6, is also in the pipeline, likely representing the final update for the iOS 18 series. In contrast to iOS 26, version 18.6 focuses more on enhancing system stability, with minimal new features, particularly in the EU where Apple is modifying the app downloading experience.
