Exciting New Updates to Google Gemini Available for Free Users
Google is rolling out an exciting array of new features for its Gemini platform, specifically designed for users who access the service at no cost. A number of capabilities that were once exclusive to the premium Advanced subscription at $20 monthly are now being made available to everyone.
Introducing Gems
Gems serve as miniature AI assistants tailored for various tasks within Gemini. Users can select from pre-existing options, such as Google’s Career guide, or even design their own personalized Gems. Whether for routine tasks or to facilitate in-depth research with targeted queries, the Gems feature is now accessible to all, having previously been limited to Advanced users.
These Gems are readily accessible from the sidebar, allowing easy navigation to start with pre-configured options.
Enhanced Deep Research Functionality
Google’s Deep Research feature, which was earlier available only to paying subscribers, is now being offered for free to all users. This innovative AI tool engages in extensive information gathering, allowing the AI to process user questions more thoroughly. Rather than provide basic bullet-point answers typical of standard AI chatbots, Deep Research compiles various sources to deliver comprehensive insights and detailed reports.
In addition to opening up Deep Research to everyone, Google is integrating the new Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model into this feature. This advanced model assists users with every stage of their research process— from planning and analysis to reporting. It supports over 45 languages, accessible via the prompt box drop-down menu.
While Google has not specified the daily limit on Deep Research queries for free users, the company has assured enhanced access for those on the Gemini Advanced plan.
Improvements to the Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Model
The Gemini 2.0 Flash model is receiving significant updates. Users can now upload files that the AI can utilize while responding to prompts. Google has also enhanced the model’s functionality and introduced sophisticated reasoning features.
