Pixel Update: Glitches and Workarounds
Software upgrades are meant to enhance the operating system’s functionality while increasing its reliability. However, it is not uncommon for unforeseen bugs and issues to emerge. This is the situation concerning the recent Pixel update. Although Google rolled out various new features alongside fixes for 43 security flaws, users have reported unexpected glitches on their Pixel devices.
Glitches in the March 2025 Pixel Update: Brightness, Vibration, and Other Concerns
To start, 9to5Google noted that some Pixel users are facing fluctuating screen brightness while using their devices, despite not altering any settings. The problem appears predominantly during video playback, where the brightness level drops or flickers unexpectedly. A user report indicates that this issue happens across numerous video applications, including Netflix, Prime Video, VLC, and Google’s native video player. A Pixel 9 was verified for the occurrence of this bug, although the brightness inconsistencies were not constant.
Besides the brightness issue, users might encounter anomalies with vibration settings. Discussions in various threads reveal mixed experiences: some individuals report that vibration feedback has become noticeably stronger post-update, with one user likening it to a “spring-like response” instead of a mere thud. In contrast, a different user mentioned that their device’s vibrations feel diminished. Regardless of the specific experiences, many users agree that there have been apparent changes following the update.
These mentioned glitches have garnered significant attention across various forums since the last Pixel Drop. However, additional problems may exist that have not been as widely reported. For instance, one user on r/GooglePixel compiled a list of issues they’ve encountered, which, alongside the brightness problem, included audio complications, such as discrepancies in EQ settings and the volume of songs being considerably higher than that of videos. This can lead to frustrating experiences when switching between apps like Spotify and Netflix, making it difficult to enjoy shows like Stranger Things without sudden, unwanted volume changes.

Resolving Brightness Issues on Pixel Devices
While it’s likely that Google will address the significant bugs stemming from the latest Pixel update, there is a temporary solution for the brightness problem: reducing the phone’s refresh rate. The flickering and dimming issues appear to arise primarily when playing videos at 120Hz. By lowering the refresh rate to 60Hz, users have reported that the brightness concerns tend to fade away.
To adjust the refresh rate, navigate to Settings > Display, and then turn off the toggle next to Smooth Display.
